February, 2007

 Dear Friends,

This is the February Update for the Earnharts’ Local Church Ministries.

We have been at home in Escondido for the month of January, and we will be here for all of February as well, with meetings in area churches.

We spend Christmas and New Years Sundays at Faith Baptist Church in Yuma, AZ, which is currently without a pastor.  We drove home on New Years Day.

I got to watch some of the college football games after I got home, and there were a couple of good ones.  I don’t watch TV sports very much- never have- I’d rather play than watch!  But I like the college football and basketball playoffs.  I don’t care much any more for the NFL or the NBA.  I’m afraid the great majority of players, and coaches, too, have let their talent and their income get way ahead of their character!  I have played sports for over 50 years, and still play basketball (it has been my exercise program for years) 2 to 3 times a week, if I’m home.  It’s hard to do on the road.  But the idea of sports is valuable, not for talent, and not for money, but for the lessons it can teach the players.  I have always said, I can tell more about a teen (or an adult) after one basketball or softball game than watching them a whole month- or two!- in church.

We have visited several times at Calvary Baptist in Temecula, Pastor Bill Rench.  It is one of our favorite places to go.  We were privileged to preach for Pastor Willie Del at Mira Mesa Bible Baptist Church, a mostly Filipino congregation.  They were having a Parent/Teen meeting in the afternoon, and I spoke to the teens there also.  I used a message I call “Three Kinds of Christians”- John Mark, Demas, and Timothy.

We also got to visit at our old church, Fundamental Baptist of Escondido, on Wednesday night of the Paul Crow evangelistic meetings.  Bro. Paul preached well, as he always does, and we enjoyed the fellowship of Pastor Ernie Merritt and his people.  We also heard that the Crows received a very good love offering, and we were glad for that.

Ruth Ann had a week in the hospital not long after we got home from Yuma, and there was talk of some corrective abdominal surgery.  After consulting together, the doctors have advised waiting, that the risks outweigh the benefits at this time.  We had already decided that Joan and Ruth Ann would not make the trip to Spain and Germany with me, and that episode just confirmed that decision to be correct.

I hate to discourage those of you Up North, but we had to keep our doors shut today, so the house would not get too hot!  But we are in for cooler weather and rain in a couple of days.  You should hear them talk about storms on the TV weather- “Next, we’ll bring  you the Channel 9 Storm Watch!”

We have been working on the Web site, so go look.  www.earnharts.com/localchurchmin

Until Next Time,  Dave
